From a locals perspective we tried to think of the things to do in Atlantic City that are unique and maybe you can’t do anywhere else, so this is are our Top 9 “Must Do” list when you visit the resort town. Let’s begin by going directly to the White House Sub Shop located at Arctic and Mississippi ave for the best sub / hoagie you have ever eaten, guaranteed.
The history inside the White House is amazing, you will find pictures of former Miss America’s, celebrity’s like Bill Cosby, President Clinton, athletes like Joe Frazier, Julius Erving and many more. The key to the taste of the sub is the bread, it can only be made here in Atlantic City, they also use top quality “Prime” meats, simply incredible.
While your stomach is digesting that sub, head over to check out the new Revel Casino at 500 Boardwalk and take a walk through the amazing new casino. If you can make it up the SkyGarden you’ll be impressed with the views, the entire place is beautiful, it’s one of Atlantic City’s Luxury Hotels.
Since you are only two blocks from the World Famous “Steel Pier”, take a walk to the rear of the pier and sign up for the Shoreline Helicopter Tour. This is one attraction that is outside your normal comfort zone, the tour is less than 15 minutes but covers the casinos along the beach and boardwalk and the view is simply breathtaking, the sunset or dusk tour may be the best, make a note of this. When the tour is over grab a beverage at the Diving Bell Beer Biergarten, then enjoy the rides on the Pier for a few hours, you will have a blast.
- Enjoy a White House Submarine Sandwich – you will not believe it!
- Tour the Revel Casino Resort and specifically the “Sky Garden”.
- Take the Atlantic City Helicopter Tour, departs from the rear of the Steel Pier, #1 Bucket List Activity!
- Check Out H2O at the Golden Nugget in the evening or for the Sunset, #1 rated sunset location in town.
- Make reservations and dine at “Chef Vola” an exclusive homemade Italian restaurant at 111 S Albion Place.
- Experience the Quarter at the Tropicana a restaurant, nightlife and entertainment hub of the city.
- Take a Dolphin Watching Tour in Gardners Basin on Atlantic City Cruises “Cruisn 1”. Then see the rest of the waterfront area.
- Stop by Fralingers Salt Water Taffy or James Candy on the boardwalk for a tour of their plant and how to make Salt Water Taffy.
- Visit and take a tour of the “Worlds Largest Pipe Organ” at Historic Boardwalk Hall. You will not believe this, I guarantee it.
Now it’s time to relax with a cocktail after your boardwalk activities, head over the new H2O on the fifth floor of the Golden Nugget Casino. It’s a large outdoor bar, with fire pits, hot tubs, large pools all overlooking the AC Skyline and is voted the best place to watch the sunset in town. Imagine sitting back in a comfortable chair with a cold beverage, fire burning and crackling as the sun sets before your eyes behind the Borgata casino into the meadows, really cool experience.
Prior to arriving in AC, make a diner reservation at one of the most amazing, very difficult to get in “Chef Vola” an underground family Italian Restaurant located at 111 South Albion Place, Atlantic City. This experience is like no other, the food is amazing, the servers highly qualified and it’s a BYOB, so grab a nice bottle of wine prior to arrival. The cool part is that you will never who may be dining with you, the last time I was there Beyonce and Jay Z with a few friends were at the table next to ours, believe me you’ll love it.
After dinner, head over to the Quarter at the Tropicana, this is the Havana Cuba themed entertainment complex featuring several bars, restaurants, nightclubs, shops, a spa and whole lot more. Maybe a cold beer from a real Irish bartender in Ri Ra Irish Pub or a Russian Martini at Red Square or simply walk around and take it all in, you’ll be mesmerized by the experience.
Rated #1 Attraction Shoreline Helicopter Tour
A seasonal attraction located at the rear of the Legendary Steel Pier, grab a cocktail and relax overlooking the ocean waves, then see Atlantic City like you’ve never seen it before. Add this as a high priority to your list of Things To Do on your next trip to Atlantic City, NJ.
The next day of your trip can start with the Atlantic City Cruises “Morning Skyline Tour” or “Dolphin Watching Tour”, both are recommended and being on the water in South Jersey is truly amazing. Captain Jeff and his team are located in Historic Gardner’s Basin 800 N. New Hampshire ave. After your cruise walk around and check the shops, restaurants and have lunch at the Back Bay Ale House of Scales Deck Grill. Gardner’s Basin is a real life fishing village that houses large fishing and crabbing vessels and is also a unique tourist destination that will again surprise you.
Make you way back over to the Boardwalk after lunch and get your hands on some World Famous “James or Fralinger’s Salt Water Taffy” located at 1519 Boardwalk. Take a Historic Factory Tour of the store that has been making Salt Water Taffy and Candy since 1880’s. Next, walk down or take a ride on a Boardwalk Rolling Chair to Historic Boardwalk Hall for a tour of the “World’s Largest Pipe Organ”. When you complete the tour, you’ll shake your head in amazement of the shear size and magnitude of this organ. The number of years it took to build, the sounds it can make, it’s really worth the time to take this tour.
Now it’s time for more action, head down to the Atlantic City Surf School for a surfing lesson with Tom Forkin or legendary NJ Surfer Dean Randazzo. There are two locations during the summer, Raleigh ave and Beach and New Jersey ave and the Beach, you can reach the school at 609-347-SURF or 347-7873. They have everything you need, you only need to have a bathing suit.
We may have listed more than 9 “Must Do’s” but we couldn’t help it, if you take our advice and experience these fun things to do in Atlantic City, you’ll have a whole new appreciation for the Historic Jersey Shore town and you will walk away feeling completely satisfied, we pretty guarantee it. We left off many activities like the hitting a beach bar or the Deck at the GN, watching the “Duality” laser light show at Boardwalk Hall or taking the tour of the Haunted Absecon Lighthouse or racing the go-karts at Central Pier or touring the Borgata Casino or doing a Flounder Fishing Tour on the High Roller, we could go on and on. Have fun and live life, DO AC!
