Dedicated to providing an exceptional golf experience,
Mays Landing Golf & Country Club
offers the “Best Birdie for the
Buck” in the Atlantic City area.
“Our philosophy is to provide every golfer with an affordable,
well-designed course that is fun, challenging to play and in
great condition,” says Jim Fraser, club president. The course
was designed by Fraserâs father, the late Leo Fraser, an
Atlantic City golf pioneer and past president of the PGA. He
designed the course to reflect his vision … that enjoyment is
at the heart of the game and that great golf should be
accessible to everyone at Mays Landing Country Club.
Located on 175 acres in the pristine pinelands of Atlantic
County, the tree lined fairways and wide landing areas were
designed with both novice and advanced golfers in mind. Since
its founding in 1962, the course has been consistently improved
and updated, including a variety of recent renovations enhancing
overall length and playability.
Mays Landing Golf and
Country Club boasts all
the amenities, including chipping and putting greens. Golf instruction is
managed by a full staff of PGA professionals for individual or
group lessons. The clubhouse features a Pro Shop, Grille Room
and flexible catering space.
Mays Landing Country Club was awarded “3 Stars” by Golf Digestâs
“Places to Play” – and continues to be one of the regionâs most
affordable courses.

Best Birdie for the Buck,” the motto
of Mays Landing Golf & Country Club Club, reflects the course’s
reasonable greens fees. The club’s GM Bob
Herman says, “We try to keep our prices down so everyone can
afford to play here.”
The course is located at 1855 Cates Road in Mays Landing, a half
mile from the Black Horse Pike and McKee Avenue, on 175 acres in
the pristine Pinelands of Atlantic County. The tree-lined
fairways and wide landing areas were designed by the late Leo
Fraser to satisfy both the advanced and novice golfer. Fraser,
past president of the PGA and a renowned golf pioneer, is the
patriarch of the Fraser family, which owns and manages the
course. The club opened in 1962 with an exhibition match between
Sam Snead and Tony Lema.
Herman, who has been working for the Frasers at Mays Landing for
13 years, says, “The Frasers are good people to work for,
they are smart businesspeople. They don’t try to do everything
all at once. They built the wedding facility a few years ago and
have recently completed the new clubhouse.” Herman earned his PGA card in 1991 at the Naples Country Club and Wildwood Country
Club in Florida.
Mays Landing’s par-72, park-style course is 18 holes and 6,698
yards of fun. Herman says, “The 15th is the signature hole, the
toughest par-3 on the course.” The hole is 220-yards from the
back, 172 from the middle, 146 from the gold and 123 from the
red. “You need an accurate tee shot to avoid the water,” he
adds.
The fairway is tight and the green is small and slopes directly
towards water on the left. There’s also water on the right and
across the fairway and bunkers right and left of the green.
Atlantic City Golf is incredible.
I found the 14th hole at Mays Landing Golf Club more
challenging. The par-4, dogleg right hole is short (341, 317,
300 and 295 yards), but there’s a huge waste area from the back
tee to 110 yards from the green. A flag near the dogleg directs
play to the center of the fairway. The 310-yard, par-4 10th hole
is short, but tough. A bunker runs from the tees half way down
the left side of the fairway. Three smaller bunkers protect the
small green. Six holes have water hazards accurate shots are
necessary. AC Weekly |
