A new attraction is coming to town, a 220 foot Observation Ferris Wheel located at Atlantic City’s Steel Pier has been announced by the Catanoso brothers and current owners of the Steel Pier Amusements.
The Planning Board in Atlantic City thinks it’s a great idea and approved a plan that would allow the current owners of the Steel Pier to build the Observation Wheel on a new section of boardwalk or added width to the existing Steel Pier, the project is estimated to cost about $12 million. The next steps are to apply for permits at the state Environmental Protection Agency, once approved, construction will start.

Currently one of the best attractions in town is the Helicopter tour that departs from the rear of the World Famous Steel Pear, but the cost is $55 so it’s not for everyone, customers will be able to affordably ride the new Ferris Wheel in Atlantic City at the Steel Pier and see some amazing skyline and beach views at the Jersey Shore. The cool part about the views are that you get completely different experiences during different times of the day, at night the casinos light up the sky, during the day beachgoers can been all the way down the beach, at dusk you can see the sunset and reflection off the exterior of some of the casinos. Bottom line is that the views will simply be fantastic, we will keep you posted on the timeline for this project.
The Texas Star wheel in Dallas at 212 feet claims to be the tallest observation wheel in North America. The Texas Star is currently the tallest Ferris wheel in the USA, standing at 212 feet Tall and located in Fair Park in Dallas, Texas.
In other parts of the World they build them bigger, this will give you an idea of the largest Ferris Wheels in the World ranging from 394 feet high to 541 feet, the Singapore Flyer, Melbourne Star, Suzhou Ferris Wheel and Star of Nanchang are all over 400 94 feet in the air..
There are two observation wheels that are in the approval process that would surpass the Atlantic City wheel, if and when completed, the Dubai Eye is scheduled for completion in 2015 will tower 690 feet into the sky and the New York wheel may be built in Staten Island and may stand 625 feet high, the project is scheduled to be done in 2016.
There are several great attractions in Atlantic City and this would add another great one to add to the list. In addition to all the other great things they are doing on the Pier, this would be a fantastic experience for kids and adults of all ages.
