career. The boundless talent of Sammy Davis, Jr. took him into
the realms of singing, dancing, comedy and acting. Two Broadway
actors, Ted Levy of Jelly's Last Jam and Darrell Grand
Moultrie of Aida, will pay tribute to Sammy Davis, Jr.
live on stage, and the show also features clips from his
performances in film and television, and at casinos, clubs, and
concert halls around the world. Audiences can also view an
exclusive collection of Sammy Davis, Jr. memorabilia that is
traveling with the show. This is a world premiere engagement.
Mr. Bojangles
Two Broadway actors - One
breathtaking musical experience! That is exactly what audiences
can expect when Sammy Davis Jr., “The Ultimate Entertainer”
makes its Atlantic City debut at Resorts Atlantic City, Sunday,
November 5 through Thursday, November 16. The magnificent
musical production is presented by the Sammy Davis Jr. Estate
and JTR Entertainment.
The production
is the first ever live stage show based upon the musical career
of Sammy Davis Jr., and has received outstanding reviews.
Created “on the shrewd notion that no one man could encapsulate
all of Sammy Davis Jr., there are two Sammies who come together
extraordinarily well,” writes Chris Jones of the Chicago
Tribune. Says the New York Times, “…the two performers are so
utterly remarkable.”
The two
Sammies are Broadway actors Ted Levy and Darrell Grand
Moultrie. Levy starred in and choreographed Jelly’s Las Jam
with Gregory Hines. His credits include The Wizard of Oz, Bring
In “Da Noise! Bring In Da’ Funk, Black and Blue and several
others. His performance in Sammy Davis Jr. The Ultimate
Entertainer is a virtual lifelong study of the man. According
to BroadwayWorld.com,
Levy “captures in voice, body language and tap, the essence of
Sammy Davis, Jr., without veering into parody.
Darrell Grand
Moultrie has starred in Hairspray, The Color Purple and played
opposite Toni Braxton in Elton John & Tim Rice’s “Aida.”
The musical
journey through the life and musical career of Davis, Jr. takes
the audience into the casino showrooms of Vegas, the night clubs
where it all began, on the movie lots of Southern California and
naturally, to the neon lights of Broadway. One of the truly
magical moments of the show is a recreation of Sammy performing
live. The artistic use of multimedia offers rare footage and
interviews with Sammy and leaves the audience eternally grateful
for the man who, as his wife, Altovise Davis says “gave his
heart, his soul and his life to people.”
The first-ever
traveling Sammy Davis Jr. Museum accompanies the stage
production to Resorts. The museum features clothing, artifacts,
rare photos, tap shoes and trademark jewelry.
Have fun and Enjoy
Sammy Davis Jr. "The Ultimate Entertainer" at Resorts
Atlantic City!
